Augustinus Foundation and the Gallery
Augustinus Fonden has supported the museum exhibition Bjørn Nørgaard. Re-modelling the World in 2010 and Henri Matisse - Doubles and Variations in 2012. The foundation has furthermore continuously contributed when the museum has purchased new works for the collections.
Asger Jorn 2014
In 2014 SMK marks the centennial for the birth of Asger Jorn with a grand retrospective exhibition. Jorn is a heavyweight of Danish art in the 20th century. He took radical new departures in his art, and they reverberate nationally and internationally even today. Augustinus Fonden supports the exhibition.
Henri Matisse - Doubles and Variations
Augustinus Fonden supported and participated in realizing the museum exhibition Henri Matisse. The Matisse exhibition in 2012 was about the process of examination with which Matisse was preoccupied his whole life, that is repeating the same motif with minute strategic variations. Matisse is especially known for his powerful paintings performed with an acute sense of the beauty of colour and lines.
Bjørn Nørgaard. Re-modelling the World
In 2010 Augustinus Fonden contributed to the extensive Bjørn Nørgaard. Re-modelling the World along with other foundations and sponsors. For the first time this unique retrospective exhibition of sculptures, installations, and actions, as well as films and graphics gave the public the possibility of getting an overall picture of Bjørn Nørgaard’s versatile artistic work from the 1960s until today.
Works of art
Augustinus Fonden is also among the contributors when it comes to purchasing works of art for the collections at the National Gallery of Denmark. With the support of Augustinus Fonden it has been possible to purchase many ground-breaking works which have an essential role in the museum collections today.
Vilhelm Hammershøi Drawing Room. Artificial Light
Most recently the Augustinus Foundation has allowed the Gallery to acquire Vilhelm Hammershøi’s painting Drawing Room. Artificial Light from 1909. The painting is unique in Hammerhøi’s oeuvre and so constitutes an important supplement to the Gallery’s collection of Vilhelm Hammershøi’s art; the largest of its kind in the world.
The painting will be on display in the collection of Danish and Nordic Art 1750 -1900 from 16 October 2012.
