New Carlsberg Foundation and the Gallery
The purpose of the New Carlsberg Foundation is to support Danish art galleries, to promote the study of art and art awareness, and generally to develop and fulfil the desire and need for art in Danmark.
With this in mind, the New Carlsberg Foundation has helped support several exhibition and book releases at the National Gallery of Denmark. In 2010, together with other foundations and sponsors, the foundation contributed to the extensive Bjørn Nørgaard exhibition Re-modelling the World at the National Gallery of Denmark. But the New Carlsberg Foundation has also contributed to the acquisition of art works. Support from the New Carlsberg Foundation has enabled the National Gallery of Denmark to acquire many of the pioneering works that now play a significant role in the Gallery’s collections.
Asger Jorn 2014
In 2014 SMK marks the centennial for the birth of Asger Jorn with a grand retrospective exhibition. Jorn is a heavyweight of Danish art in the 20th century. He took radical new departures in his art, and they reverberate nationally and internationally even today. The New Carlsberg Foundation supports the publication of the exhibition catalogue.
