Nordea-fonden and the Gallery

The National Gallery of Denmark and Nordea-fonden are jointly providing online-access to our cultural heritage. Artistic, cultural, and forward-thinking culture. Nordea-fonden provides broad support in music, theatre, dance, graphic arts, literature and cultural communications. The Foundation places special emphasis on supporting projects entailing originality, quality and expansion in society.
Based on the same cultural communications strategy and with support from Nordea-fonden, the National Gallery of Denmark launched the ambitious project SMK Digital in 2008.

SMK digital makes art available
Over the coming years, the National Gallery of Denmark will be investing heavily in digital communications. Visitors to the Gallery will have the opportunity to experience art on new terms, when the Gallery’s communications also stretch across the digital platform to reach visitors wherever they are already located online. With SMK, the National Gallery of Denmark will make art available and relevant to its audience in all places and at all times.
SMK is Denmark’s National Gallery, and administers large parts of Denmark’s cultural heritage. A cultural heritage that SMK digital will help to make accessible and familiar to a much wider group of users.

The traditional experience of art will be be challenged
The slogan that an artistic experience provides the greatest significance when standing directly before the original work will be challenged by SMK Digital. SMK digital will add new facets and dimensions to a more traditional experience of the art found in the halls of the Gallery.

SMK digital is a five-year development project made possible by Nordea-fonden.
