Nykredit and the Gallery
Nykredit sees the opportunities offered by cultural initiatives related to the building sector, with the x-room as an innovative contribution to dynamic architecture. At the same time, Nykredit is also a dedicated partner in initiatives to conserve contemporary art in Denmark. This involvement is not restricted to the National Gallery of Denmark: Nykredit’s own premises are also home to some of the best Danish art of the 20th century. For Nykredit, contemporary art plays an important role.
Main sponsor of the x-room: Nykredit
Thanks to Nykredit, from 2001 to 2013, the National Gallery of Denmark was able to welcome museum guests into a new space: the x-room, where the x represents the unknown. The room questions conventional exhibition methods, which is why the means of presentation shifts from one exhibition to another. Nobody knows what x-room they will encounter the next time they enter Room 114 of the Gallery, or which form of artistic expression will have inspired it.
This requires artists of a very special kind. Young, ambitious artists are therefore invited to create the x-room by creating new works especially for this exhibition space.
A platform for the young comtemporary artists
The purpose of the x-room was from 2001 to 2013 to ensure a platform for the younger generation of contemporary artists in Denmark’s national gallery. The artistic expression therefore stretched from painting and sculpture to photography, installations, performance, video and conceptual art.
