Stryhn Holdning A/S

Stryhn Holding A/S supports a variety of artistic, cultural, and social projects and it's the two women Elsebeth Stryhn (b. 1948) and Johanne Stryhn Hørby (b. 1981), who are behind the company. In 2010 they have helped the National Gallery of Denmark with the acquisition of Ursula Reuter Christiansen’s work Women Forward!

Christiansen works with painting as narrative and as a means of depicting the world in which women live and act. The work Women Forward! was created in 1971, i.e. in the year after the Red Stocking movement launched its first actions in Denmark. In her range of portraits of perfectly ordinary, anonymous women painted on the basis of photos from contemporary newspapers, she employs the medium of painting to focus on the women’s movement as a collective movement in aid of a common cause. The painting is an insistent, intimate group portrait that makes a radical break with traditional depictions of women. It is accessible to the general public in Danish and International Art after 1900.
