Venus de Milo, 2nd century BC
The original marble statue has been on permanent display at the Louvre Museum in Paris since the early 19th century. In the centuries to follow, various versions of the goddess of love and beauty have helped generate greater awareness of the statue. Venus de Milo is a seminal sculptural work. Her naked torso, the graceful S-curve of her posture and her missing arms have made her an icon of the art world.
