Note: Motivet er taget fra Plutarch's 'Alexander den Stores Liv', hvor det fortælles, at kun Alexanders ven, lægen Philippus, turde behandle ham under hans sygdom, og da Philippus blev anklaget for at ville forgifte ham, bevarede Alexander sin tiltro til ham og drak den medicin, han fik af ham.
