During the 1970s Brøgger explored the relationships between subject, space, and social systems and structures.

His works often examine the rules and functions governing the creation of art.

The Danish Arts Foundation

In this case the concrete point of departure is the Danish Arts Foundation, which was established in 1964. The tension between the artist’s private space and the external public entity impinging on that space via the letter pushed in through the flap is depicted in a soberly documenting series of photographs; in a film-like sequence they let the artist perform as the main character of his own life.

The red suitcase

The small, red suitcase anchors the pictorial narrative in concrete reality, a tangible counter-image to the more intangible exchange of money and the artist’s working space.
