Image analysis (years 3 - 10)
What is image analysis? How can one analyse a work of art? We analyse old and new art and examine the interplay between the visual elements of the works and our own experience of them.
Through various periods and ‘–isms’ we examine how art can be analysed. The purpose is to build a stronger understanding of central visual elements included in various artistic expressions.
The Danish Golden Age (years 7 - 10)
The Golden Age of 1800-1850 is one of the most glorious periods in Danish art, born from the economic and political influence of the middle class. It was also during this period that the idea of traits considered intrinsically Danish in art was born. We examine works from the period and discuss essential characteristics of the art.
The modernist breakthrough (years 7 - 10)
The end of the 1800s is generally seen as marking the entry of realism in the graphic arts. Art was no longer meant to idealise, as e.g. in the Golden Age, but rather depict actual reality – but what type of reality was to be shown as part of the breakthrough of the modern? We examine works from the period and discuss essential characteristics of the art and its time.
What is an art gallery? (preschool to year 10)
What is a work of art? What are we supposed to do with it? And why do we collect art? In this session we work with the students to look at what an art gallery actually is. We set out to explore the rooms of the Gallery, large and small, to experience art new and old.
The body in art (preschool to year 10)
Even if the human body has always been one of the most popular motifs in art, the standards of what the human body can and should express have been subject to continuous change. During the 1600s, for example, many artists used biblical and mythological narratives as a cover to legitimate their depiction of nude beauty, while several artists today use the human body to make us confront our personal relationship to the body and society. We examine the body in art through various periods and formats.
Modernism (years 6 - 10)
During the time around 1900, art begins to break through boundaries and become modern – but what is ‘modern’ art? We examine works from modernist artistic movements such as fauvism, cubism and surrealism.
Introduction to contemporary art (years 6-10)
This session focuses on the Gallery’s newest works and looks at the choices made by artists of our own times in terms of materials and themes and how these artists experiment with form and content.
What does the art of our own time look like? What materials do the artists use, and what is their art about?
This session presents the opportunity to gain awareness of media such as painting, photography, sculpture, video and installations.
