Aneta Grzeszykowska, Album, 2005
Aneta Grzeszykowska uses her own life for her starting point in the work Album. It consists of an album with Grzeszykowska’s private photographs. After having looked at the many different photographs, one slowly realizes that the pictures have been edited and that someone is missing. This is quite obvious in some of the photographs, because the composition of the motif does not work, while it does not make itself felt in the others and is more easily overlooked.
A representation of truth and reality?
Aneta Grzeszykowska has chosen to manipulate the photographic records of her life. Album questions whether photography can be used as a representation of truth and reality. The work also problematises how identity is created as part of community, and what happens when one is excluded from the family.Album is a part of the exhibition category
