Cirkus Pentium

The exhibition "Cirkus Pentium" by Henrik Plenge Jakobsen was shown 22 January - 10 April 2005

Henrik Plenge Jakobsen (b. 1967) linked sculpture, video, opera, a stuffed tiger, optical effects, extravagant costumes in a large-scale installation that takes off in the world of circus.

In x-rummet Henrik Plenge Jakobsen created a surreal universe that offered a monstrous mirror image of present-day reality. The circus is the prototype of the modern entertainment industry. It is a place of illusion, sensation, and transformations, for thrilling delights and silly capers. But it is also a place where all clowning can at any time take on aspects of existentialist gravity and tragedy, where the seductive can suddenly become repulsive.

Circus Pentium is a circus that has gone off the rails, unveiling and distorting the mechanisms we let ourselves be entertained by. In the ring we meet characters such as the greedy ringmaster, Frau Emmy von N, and Der Hungerkünstler.
