In Orgia
The exhibition "In Orgia" by Lars Nilsson was shown 29 May - 29 August 2004
In Orgia is a video installation by the Swedish artist Lars Nilsson (b. 1956). The film footage was recorded with a stationary camera placed in front of an enormous, staged tableau unfolding like a cross between an artificial landscape and an architectural construct. A strangely hybrid space, reminiscent of both a classical park landscape and a deteriorating shopping mall; a modern ruin being reclaimed by nature. Within this space people drift, a group of boys play ball, some young men are starting a fight, while another group is engaged in a sexual orgy on the grass. The video establishes a duplicity between the real and the artificial, acting as a painting that unfolds over time.
The exhibition in x-rummet was Lars Nilsson’s first solo exhibition in Denmark. Since his debut in the early ‘80s, the internationally recognised Swedish artist Lars Nilsson (b. 1956) has been working with various artistic media, especially sculpture and installation but in recent years also with video. His works often perform as caustic comments on modern, social ways of behaviour.
For this project he built a huge stage in a studio 50 metres deep, and it includes more than 80 actors and extras. A panorama of human existence where a number of incompatible - however recognisable - events take place in a weird public space that looks like a compromise between a construction site and park scenery.
