SMK Fridays: Set art free!

Date: 29. may. 2015
Time: 16:00 - 22:00
Price: Free

This SMK Fridays orbits the 25.000 photos of artworks in the museum’s collection, which SMK has released from copyright. These images can now be copy/pasted, remixed and reused freely. Come see, hear, and take part in art creation based on these thousands of works.

Mix it up! exhibition all weekend

For this SMK Fridays we present a pop-up exhibition. 13 designers and artists have created a range of new art works built upon copyright free pictures of art from SMK’s collections.

On this night you can join the designers for a tour of the pop-up exhibition. Mix it up! is created in a collaboration between Europeana Creative, Aalto University, and SMK.

All weekend from 29 to 31 May these works – including jogging suits, 22 skies from Danish “Golden Age” paintings projected onto the ceiling, newly knitted tapestries and mash-up collages – will be exhibited side by side with the original works in the collection.

First showing of the movie “Den Europæiske Spejlbue”

Earlier this year, composer and musician Anders Lauge Meldgaard, alias Frisk Frugt, released the album “Den Europæiske Spejlbue”, an examination of European world music. For Fridays we present the first showing of the film made for the music. Frisk Frugt plays a prelude as an introduction to the first showing in SMK’s cinema.

BARCODE – a staged concert

In a collaboration with Holland House the evening also features the concert BARCODE – a staged concert of rarely performed works by John Cage, Steve Reich, and others. Live performance by actress Rikke Lylloff and singer Jakob Bloch Jespersen.

BARCODE presents newly produced video animations of rotating chairs, singing heads and furious strip singing. Directed by Jacob F. Schokking.

With three simple steps: Choose an image, recreate and exhibit! the VanGoYourself app lets you step into the masterworks of art history. London based Culture24 who developed the app are with us this evening and invite you to recreate selected works from SMK’s collection. Relevant props will be made available.

Experience also the interactive installation Culture Cam where the colors and patterns of your clothes activate searches through the digitized collections. Culture Cam is developed by design agency Spild af Tid in collaboration with Europeana Creative.

Wiki edit-a-thon and gif workshop

Help hack our interpretation of art history at this Wikipedia edit-a-thon which is all about contributing your knowledge to the history of art. Contribute to a more diverse description of Danish art and art history in Wikipedia.

Or set your creativity free and make little animated gifs from images of SMK’s collections at this evening’s gif workshop. Both workshops will be facilitated. Everybody can join, so bring your laptop. The workshops run from 14:00 to 17:00. Registration required:

Film screening: All This Can Happen

The film All This Can Happen by Siobhan Davies and David Hinton consists solely of archive footage from the earliest childhood of the film medium – edited and reworked to form a new, combined narrative. The film maker David Hinton introduces the film and does a Q&A afterwords.

Goodiepal’s internet hack

In an invisible bubble of approximately 20x20x20 meters, the artist/musiciaon Goodeipal takes over the SMK wifi for one night. While inside the wifi bubble you can log onto Goodiepal’s wifi and hear all of the artist's so-called auto-replies. And he has created a new auto-reply about hacking, exclusively for this evening.
