"For all of history's losers" – Jack Halberstam

SMK Fridays mixes art, talks, music and drinks to create a different kind of after-hours museum experience. This instalment of SMK Fridays is a special edition where Institut for Succes, a collective dedicated to producing performances and texts, invite everyone to attend an evening about success. Join us as we explore success as one of the greatest motifs – and motors – of capitalism and popular culture.

New performance art
This evening, the collective will transform SMK Fridays into a single performance work; one that encompasses and frames a range of performances by Danish and international artists alike. Here you will find live performances, video performances and Skype performances. The collective shut down the exhibition rooms and fill those spaces of the museum that are not usually dedicated to art with new Danish and international performance art.

Watch performances by Anna Ørberg, Britta Thie, Colin Self, Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė, Elizabeth Mputu, Guldminen, Rosie Hastings & Hannah Quinlan aka. @GAYBAR, Sidsel Meineche Hansen, Tabita Rezaire, Women’s History Museum, Yvette Brackman and members of Institute for Success.

DJ-sets as art, drinks and vegan street food
Institute for Success will also take over the DJ booth, art talks and the lighting in the museum. Kødbyens Mad & Marked offer finger food in the Museum Garden – this time in a special vegan edition – and of course you will find music and drinks.

When the museum closes at 22.00, Institute for Success invite you to an after-party arranged in co-operation with the “queer-party-blingbling”-collective Guldminen at an undisclosed location. Exact information about the party will be announced at the event at SMK.

Institute for Success opens up the spaces in between
Speaking about their planned evening at SMK, Institute for Success say: “For our intervention at SMK Fridays we chose to take up position in all the transitionary and in-between spaces at the museum: the lobby, the Sculpture Street, and the exhibition of Danish and Nordic Art, which is currently closed to visitors due to renovation. In this exhibition space, the rooms and walls have been emptied of works. Only the signs and spotlights that used to mark the location of the works remain.”

This one-day exhibition of new performance art coincides with Institut for Succes’ launch of a new collection of merchandise and the book FIASCO. The book contains texts and visual contributions from Anna Ørberg, Britta Thie, Dorota Gaweda & Egle Kulbokaite, Institut for Succes, Lars Bang Larsen, Luki Von Der Gracht, Maria Berrios, Mathias Dyhr, Nina Kettiger, Rosie Hastings & Hannah Quinlan aka. @GAYBAR, Gradeanalien, Selina Rom, Sidsel Meineche Hansen, Stine Marie Jacobsen and Women's History Museum, Tabita Rezaire, Anne Nora Fischer and Anna Moderato, Get Artists Paid.

About Institut for Succes
Institut for Succes is a loosely-banded collective dedicated to producing performances and texts. At present the institute comprises seven artists, curators and art theorists: Anna Weile Kjær, Dina Friemuth, Mira Winding, Jeppe Ugelvig, Maja Malou Lyse, Magnus Kaslov, Esben Weile Kjær and Anne Sofie Madsen.

The collective primarily works with interventions into other art institutions. They use the institutions’ spaces, structures and communication interfaces to discuss the concept of success in relation to capitalism and gender.

Institut for Succes has no fixed abode, but lives only in pre-existing institutions. This parasitical behaviour gives rise to a range of interventions, the first of which was Institut for Succes 1.0, held last year at Kunstforeningen GL. Strand.

The event is free!

SMK Fridays is sponsored by the Bikuben Foundation
