SMK Fridays – featuring FROST

Date: 7. feb. 2014
Time: 16:00 - 22:00
Price: Free

SMK Fridays offer an excellent opportunity to inject a bit of culture into your Fridays. Relax with a drink, get better acquainted with the world of art, and enjoy art talks, music, films, and street kitchen food.

On 7 February SMK Fridays focus on performance art and music performances. SMK teams up with Musikfestivalen FROST the music festival FROST, allowing the festival arrangers to select this evening’s concerts and music.

FROST at SMK Fridays

The music festival FROST has invited three bands from their festival programme to stage pop-up concerts in the SMK exhibition rooms and in the museum’s spectacular lobby. The fusion of live music, 700 years of art, and the SMK’s historic setting will certainly make for a very special experience.

We can reveal the identity of one of the three bands playing this evening: The quirky, distinctive folk band Spillemændene, who recently released their critically acclaimed debut album Nationalsange. The identity of the other bands will remain a surprise until they come onstage.

Tickets: Admission to all concerts is free.

Tickets for the concerts are handed out on the evening on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets for the first concerts will be handed out at 4 p.m., followed by a second session at 5 p.m. No tickets are required for the two FROST concerts staged in the SMK’s large lobby. The number of seats available for the other concerts is strictly limited.

Please note: No food and drink may be brought into the exhibition rooms.

Premiere: Video work by Marina Abramović

Join us for a premiere: the very first screening of the SMK’s most recently acquired video work: Art Must Be Beautiful, Artist Must Be Beautiful by the New York-based Serbian artist Marina Abramović.

Marina Abramović is a pioneering figure within body and performance art, using her own body as medium and subject matter. The work was acquired with kind support from the Danish Agency for Culture and Hermod Lannungs Museumsfond.

Art talks about Marina Abramović

We offer two talks about the artist and the work. Curator Birgitte Anderberg gives you insight into Abramović’s art, while the performance artist Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen talks about her work on re-enacting Marina Abramović's performances.

Film about Marina Abramović in the cinema

Our cinema screens a critically acclaimed documentary about Marina Abramović: The artist is Present from 2012. The film follows the artist closely as she is preparing for a performance at MoMa in New York; a performance that many art critics have proclaimed the most important milestone of her career.

Artist-DJ: Populus Sanctus

As always, the night ends with a contemporary artist acting as DJ. This time the honour falls to the artist Alexander Tovborg, who turns his DJ session into a performance complete with church coffee, sacramental wafers, and music from the Vatican when he takes to the Stage under his nom du plume POPULUS SANCTUS.

Art talks: Input in 15 minutes

Throughout the evening you can join us for bite-sized guided tours that home in on individual works in the SMK collections, each of them offering a different perspective on performance art. Just join us in the Lobby and get fresh food for thought.

Street food, bar, and music

As always, SMK Fridays boasts a bar, beer carts, and world-class street food courtesy of chef Bernard Chesneau and his mobile street kitchen.  FROST has compiled the soundtrack of this evening, which will offer highlights from the FROST's festival programme.
