Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen: EgoShow
x-rummet 18 February - 14 May 2006
The Danish artist Lilibeth Cuence Rasmussen has established herself as one of the most original video artists working today.
In EgoShow in x-rummet she performs a poetic dissection of contemporary egotism and macho posturing presenting two all-new video works.
With consummate style and an almost voracious curiosity, she navigates the interspace between different kinds of realities and extremes. Between the perfect stagings of music videos and the raw reality of documentaries. Between personal confessionals and political commitment.
Taking her own Danish-Filipino background as her point of departure, she displays a keenly honed sensitivity, almost like that of an anthropologist, to the narratives that exist in and between a place of birth and home country. She gathers, adapts, and universalises these narratives in her both critical and humorous approach to central issues such as identity, gender, and social relations.
Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen is born in 1970 in Manila in the Philippines. She is a graduate from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1996-2002).
She has contributed to a wide range of exhibitions in Denmark and abroad. Last year she received the Danish Art Council’s three-year grant.
The exhibition in x-rummet was her first solo exhibition at a Danish art museum.
