Jørgen Haugen Sørensen: "While We Wait"
Sculptor of the Year at Statens Museum for Kunst 28 March 2007 - 3 March 2008
One of Denmarks most important Sculptors
Throughout his career, Jørgen Haugen Sørensen (b. 1934) has created monumental and controversial works depicting human existence in all its aspects. In recent years, he has begun to experiment more with figure-based and narrative sculpture, and has returned to the favoured medium of his youth: clay.
In the Sculpture Street, Jørgen Haugen Sørensen exhibited a broad selection of recent works, dealing with such themes as violence, freedom of speech and power. Most of these works had been created especially for the exhibition.
Focus on Sculpture
In the coming years, the museum will be placing an extra focus on sculpture. Each year, a new artist will be invited to be "Sculptor of the Year" and thus create an exhibition of his or her own works in the museum's Sculpture Street.
