Anna Gaskell, Acting Lesson, 2007

Acting Lesson
Anna Gaskell herself is the main character in Acting Lesson, which is a video projection lasting almost ten minutes. The course of the action in Acting Lesson is Anna Gaskell’s private love story. Gaskell retells the story – to the observer – but also to a director who is standing beside the camera. The result is a story which is interrupted time after time by the director, who gives advice as to how words can be better stressed, and directions about how Gaskell shall enter more into the spirit of the story.

A reconstruction of reality
Acting Lesson is a reconstruction of reality, but because the director intervenes, the authentic story is slowly altered and elements are omitted because they do not sound good, or do not fit in. In this way, the work belongs to the exhibition category re-enactment.
