In Reality?
Photography creates an apparently close connection with reality to a much greater degree than other art media. Just press a button – and the visible world becomes a picture. Photography has an authentic aura and instils the viewer with a sense of "having been there".

Manipulability and Subjectivity
But the status of photography as a witness to reality has been challenged both artistically and theoretically: the connection between medium and reality is relativised and considered a cultural construction on the basis of the awareness that the photograph is subject to manipulation and has been subjectively construed.
