The Incident
In this, the most dramatic painting in the series, a woman clutches her face in horror. In front of her a man lies lifeless on the ground, his blood trickling out to form a pattern behind him. Next to him another young man is grabbing his wounds.
Are we witnessing one of the countless gang shootouts of Rio de Janeiro? Or a fight gone too far?The relaxed attitude adopted by the police suggests that this is a routine occurrence, and at this point events are sufficient controlled to prompt spectators at the scene to move in closer to see what is going.
