The x-room

The x-room is the museum's venue devoted to experimental contemporary art. Twice a year, a specially selected artist from Denmark or abroad is invited to create an exhibition especially for the x-room. Since its inauguration in 2001, the x-room has been home to invisible labyrinths, pink castles, giant installations, interactive video narratives, and much more

Who exhibits in the x-room?

Young trail-blazing artists are invited to exhibit in the x-room. Many of these artists have already made a name internationally, but not all of them have come to the fore in Denmark. The purpose of the x-room is to ensure a platform in Danish museums for younger contemporary artists

What art can you experience in the x-room?

Contemporary art has many forms of expression. Art in the x-room ranges from traditional forms like painting and sculpture to newer genres like photography, installations, performance, video and conceptual art

The function of the exhibitions

The exhibitions you can experience in the x-room are created for the room, and the artist has often seized the opportunity of looking critically, theoretically, aesthetically, reflectively or ironically at the institution and art in the museum. Artists of our time contribute a beat and perspective to the collections and contemporary exhibitions.
