Guided tours in Turkish and English at the Royal Cast Collection
On Sundays in June and July the Royal Cast Collection will offered guided tours in Turkish and English. Elif Erez, who is of Turkish descent and studies at Yale in the USA, will take visitors on a journey through one of the world’s largest collection of plaster casts of classical sculpture.
Elif Erez invites audiences on guided tours where she will focus on ten different sculptures to tell a story about the shape and form of the human body through various art periods, linking this to relevant historical, philosophical, and political thinking through the ages.
The first tour is conducted on Sunday 24 June at 3 p.m. Tours will then be conducted every Sunday at 3 p.m. up to and including Sunday 29 July. The guided tours have a duration of approximately 30 minutes.
The Royal Cast Collection is located on the Copenhagen harbour front and is home to more than 2,000 plaster casts of statues. The collection was relocated to the West India Company Warehouse in 1984; after this point close to a decade was spent on repairing and arranging the collection. It is now presented in a new display where the works are not presented in chronological order, but in accordance with archaeological principles – i.e. according to the site and time of the discovery of the original sculptures, regardless of whether these date back to the Archaic, Classical, or Hellenistic periods
