Taking art out into the city
Metro fences in the Frederiksberg neighbourhood and by the Marble Church have been treated to an art makeover by a group of young volunteers from the SMK.
Now you can visit two fences around Metro sites in Copenhagen and see how young volunteers from the SMK – so-called art pilots – have brought the museum’s art out into the open urban space.
Denmark’s largest photograph
On the fence around the Marble Church Metro site you can see a vast photographic collage which holds the record as Denmark’s largest photograph. The photo collage consists of a remix of paintings from the SMK collections and was created by a number of young volunteers – the so-called art pilots – in collaboration with the people living in the area.
The Metro fence at Solbjerg Plads, Frederiksberg, now boasts two giant flowers, and closer inspection will reveal their secrets. For the art pilots and citizens from Frederiksberg have created the flowers out of photographs of famous paintings by e.g. P.S. Krøyer and Vilhelm Hammershøi. The photographs on the two Metro fences are all based on digital images of artworks from the SMK collections that we have released so that they can be downloaded for free with no infringement of copyright issues.
The art projects will adorn the Metro fences until the spring of 2014.
