Christmas and New Year’s at SMK

Visit the Children’s Workshop to create your own Christmas ornaments, or join us on a guided tour where we go hunting for angels in art. In the days between Christmas day and New Year’s Eve we prepare for the last party of the year by making creatively crazy New Year’s hats in the Children’s Workshop.

Sundays for Children

The Sundays for Children offer Christmas fun for all the family. Join us at the Stage to create angel art as part of a large, communal work of art overseen and aided by the SMK in-house artists. In the Children’s Workshop children can make Christmas art and Christmas decorations from a wealth of suitably seasonal materials. The café offers a delicious family brunch, and guided tours for children that cut across the Gallery’s collections will be staged throughout the day.

  • 2. December: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

About the Children's Workshop

Guided tours for children: Christmas in art – in Danish

Christmas is near with all its glitter, baubles, and splendour. We see angels everywhere – in Christmas ornaments, on wrapping paper, Christmas cards, and advent calendars – but art, too, offers exciting visions of many different kinds of angels. We go hunting for them on this tour.

The tour is aimed at families with children aged 4 to 12. Children below this age will take greater pleasure in a trip to the Children’s Workshop. Children above the age of 12 can join the guided tours arranged for adults.

These guided tours are free. Tickets are available from the Information desk 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the tour.

The tours are in Danish.

  • 2. December: 12 a.m.
  • 9. December: 12 a.m.

Guided tours for adults: Angels in art – in Danish

Artists have depicted angels in very different ways through the ages – join us on a guided tour and see a wealth of examples. SMK is home to seraphs, cherubs, archangels, and many others. The guided tour will address many issues, including the functions served by angels in art and how different types of angels are depicted.

These guided tours are free. Tickets are available from the Information desk 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the tour.

The tours are in Danish.
